Some of the methods by which you can collect data:

• Observation study.

• Interview of relevant stakeholders (from the lecture series, you may approach any of the guest speakers for an interview, if you deem their presentation useful for further research).

• Online and/or actual physical material* visual research of the selected area (the people/arts/symbols/architecture/text/calligraphy etc.)

2 Accompanying descriptions that properly and clearly informs about important information of each artefact and materials

: planning trip

We started off by deciding how to conduct our research by setting up a poll. I had previously suggested we visit museums/ central market/ areas around malaysia which consist of batik findings.

We decided to go on Friday (28/02/2025) as this day was a day off uni allocated for research and findings.

: findings - observation study + interaction

We walked through Central Market and found a variety of batik stores. Here are some examples of Javanese/ Malysian batik in every objects and household/ fashion.

: artefacts chosen

Using these, we decided on what we wanted to buy as our physical findings. We finally concluded on two artefacts. First we bought a miniature mask as the owner recommended it to us due to its rich history as shown in the slideshow.

Second was a mug with batik design, chosen due to its relevance in everyday design, how batik can applied into a variety of everyday use in Malaysian/ Indonesian culture through everyday objects.

: visual research

This was the slides created in relation to the artefacts, with our individual findings and discussions from the shop owner.

: final submission

This was our final proposal submission with all complete slides:

FEEDBACK

Week 5: Tiktok video should be 30-45 seconds, can include multiple part videos such as part 1, part2 etc.. Brand your tiktok page to your project. Remember to do your e-portfolio, 1 module with 1-3 posts. Members can have the same e-portfolio, but your reflection should be your own. Along with your tiktok, can upload a recorded presentation.

REFLECTIONS

Task 2 provided me with the insight to explore our very own local batik in Malaysia, site visits with a fresher perspective and a hunger for knowledge. I enjoyed understanding the deeper history of batik sold at Central Market at pasar seni and talking to local sellers who provide their own input, I felt more informed in local batik history and its origins.
