Project 2
Exercise 1 - Shooting and Editing (15%)
Exercise 1 was a group project. We were split into groups by Mr Martin
randomly In class. We had to assign ourselves a role(s) in the
production process for the following week production shoot.

I was put into group 2, where I decided to be the director of Photography since I had a DSLR at home which I was somewhat familiar using. I was always interested in camera work and wanted to understand the inner workings. I filled in my name for lighting crew as well, since we had a few members short and needed more roles to be filled in.

Sir uploaded the storyboard and the clips for reference. We had to act out
and record scenes from "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once".
The shooting went well. We shot at E1.01 - Photo Studio in week 5. I loved
using the advanced tripods and watching the other members working on
lights and microphones. We shot several takes using mine and another
member's camera.
After shooting, we had to organize the selected clips in order with their
respective audio files.

We decided to sync up the audio ourselves, and it proved a hard time
finding the correct soud for the shortlisted take. I watched the video
tutorial provided by Mr Martin on how to sync up audio to video on Premire
Pro.
Afterwards, I opened Premire Pro and ordered my clips in order of the
storyboard format. I followed the tutorial and applied it for my audio
files.

The next step was to apply colour correction and colour grading. Following the assessment guide we had to colour grade the shoot in the following circumstances:
I added the relevant colour correction depending on the exposure in each scene. Afterwards, I made sure each colour graded scene matched the overall colour in the original. This is the final result:
Exercise 2 - Tiktok/ Insta Video (15%)
For Exercise 2, we had to make a short video about
yourself, one aspect of you,
or any topic that matters to you. We must then post it in an Instagram
reel or tiktok format and base it off things we see on social media. We
must include the following shots in our work:
- Close-Up shot
- Frontal MCU (soft background)
- Frontal MS (soft background)
- ¾ angling MCU shot (with blurry/soft foreground)
- Low angle Wide shot
:project proposal
We start off by submitting a project proposal of our idea for the
video and our sources of inspiration. After this is approved, we moved
on to storyboarding and shooting.
After taking a few shots and giving it some time, I realized that my idea cannot be exucuted as it is a bit too complex and I wasn't able to find suitable baby clips that can help reflect the shots and the story. I scrapped off my first concept and decided to re-do my proposal.
I took a bunch of shots and saved them to a folder
Afterwards, I imported them onto Premiere Pro and ordered them accordingly.
I added relevant text and synced the audio with some background music.
This is the final outcome:
REFLECTION
Project 2 was a game-changer for me. I loved learning how to shoot,
different camera angles, shot sizes, and equipment. I had so much fun
working with these. Shooting as a group was fun, I enjoyed
taking on the role of cameraman and watching my groupmates do their part
and work together to create an outcome. I learnt a lot about colour
grading, evoking an emotion in each scene and the power of colour
correcting. I understood how sound design affects a scene and the
importance of microphones when filming. My Insta/ TikTok video was the
most experimental for me and the outcome was way better than expected. I
enjoyed having the free time to experiment with shooting and editing and
the storyline had more meaning to me as I reflected on my experiences.
Overall, loved how much Project 2 taught me and exposed me to the real
world of filmmaking and I hope to apply these skills in future.
