: research
After watching a couple stop motion shorts, here are 3 that I
shortlisted as inspiration.
I loved the wooly dolls and the way in which the animation flows. It is
a unique form of stop motion. But the main thing that drew me to this
short animation is the overall message. The use of imagery and
metaphorical devices is quite beautiful. I enjoyed the plot twist of the
girl not being an actual "snake" but being perceived as such by her
ungrateful partner.
This stop motion short has beautiful storytelling. I love the different
angles, camera shots, and compositions, which keep the story visually
pleasing and interesting. Again, has a deeper message which I
appreciate, with lots of symbolism and simple dialogue. The pastel
colour palette is calming and gorgeous, I appreciate the individuality
of characters.
A rather dark and triggering stop motion, I fell in love with the art
style and set pieces. I love the use of mixed media, starting from a
stop-motion doll to paper drawings. This was created by a student, and
watching the behind the scenes was equally as interesting. Each set
piece and frame was handmade individually. She made the room using a
shoebox, furniture using doll furniture, a custom will doll, and used
foam for the bubbles, which is really creative and fuels me with
inspiration. I liked the message as well because I believe "Art comforts
the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable".

I used clay models and a combination of tissue paper,
cardboard, paint, and string for the set and other props.
Filming proved to be tough, I started off using my DSLR but it
caused a lot of technical difficulties so I soon switched to a
phone.
I used Premiere Pro for all the editing, including the graphics
which I first attempted on After Effects and soon
switched.

REFLECTIONS
The Final Stop Motion Project was incredibly fun to do. I enjoyed making
the set the most, It allowed me to be as creative as possible and use my
artistic skills. I bought my products, formed my storyline, and created
my storyboard early on the semester which took a huge burden off, I
found that planning ahead in pre-production helps with time management.
Overall, I loved this module, Video and Sound Production was something I
was passionate about part-time, and this module helped me develop and
learn many new skills.
