PROJECT
Project 1
Project 1 is focused on the audio and sound section of this module. Using
Premiere Pro, and Adobe Audition, students are required to manipulate and
create suitable audio and audio types to suit the environment each project
is set in.
Exercise 1 - Audio Dubbing (15%)
For this project, we were given a scene from the movie "Everything,
Everywhere, All At Once". This scene was fully mute and we were required to
add in recorded lines, sound effects, and ambiance sounds.
Download folder: vsp24 audio dubbing
The folder consists of a muted video, and a Word’s file for the dialogues.
To begin I rewatched the scene to get an idea of how the audio can be dubbed
to lip-synched perfectly. This included understanding the tone, duration, and
delivery. I also took mental note of what kind of sound effects I would need
to download and where exactly to place them.

Afterwards I started recording lines on my phone and transferred them to
google drive.

Afterwards, I imported them onto Premiere Pro and as i worked on the project,
simultaneously downloaded the needed audio files from https://freesound.org/.

I used the "Audio" workspace on Premiere Pro and adjusted clarity and
volume, added tags, and adjusted the pitch when it came to dialogue.

I made two versions, one with a soundtrack and one without as I felt the
soundtrack made it sound more professional, but took away from the goal of
the assignment, which was to showcase the audio dubbing and effects and a
soundtrack wasn't required.

We also had to fill in a spreadsheet on the scene divisons and breakdown of
sounds used etc. This is what mine looked like:

Final Submission
Exercise 2 - Sound Shaping (15%)
For exercise 2, we had to record our own voice for 5 seconds and recreate the
following audio effects using Adobe Audition:
- Voice of phone call.
- Voice coming from inside of closet.
- Voice of toilet/bathroom.
- Underground cave.
- Alien/ Orc voice
I started off by going through the slides posted by Martin.
In the slides, I watched the video tutorial posted by Mr Martin.
I started off by recording my voice, then importing it onto Adobe Audition.
Afterward, I followed the instructions accordingly to get different sound
effects. The first one is for phone call.
I used a variety of filters as well and played around with other settings to
get my output. This was an example for one of my sound shaping:
I finally completed all sound shaping using a variety of tutorials, and
experimenting with settings on my own. I found the alien one the most
experimental, which I learned to do purely by adjusting various settings.
REFLECTION
Project 1 was unexpectedly fun. I have been passionate about sound editing
from the start, but to work on fully muted scenes where audio dubbing and
lip-synching were required proved to be more exciting. I enjoyed making
the scene my own. Recording lines was a little embarrassing, and I made
sure to do it when no one was home, but after looking at the final
product, it paid off. I learnt how to pitch shift and create ambient
sounds which will definitely aid me with future projects and I can't wait
to apply these skills.
