REFLECTIONS

Experience: Typography was something new and refreshing to me, but also a module that pushed my limits and understanding of design and media. Typography challenged me to use a new set of skills, and everything learnt were things I did not know before. Mr. Vinod's videos combined with Mr Max's guidance brought out the best of my abilities. I enjoyed many of the classes, especially face-to-face, and felt that this module provided me with the best support and resources to learn. I found each assignment more interesting than the last. However, my most favourite may be Task 1 exercise 1 as there is more visual play to the Type Expressions. I enjoyed adding a bit of graphical elements into typefaces. It reminded me most of Logo Design. However, I found the online lectures tedious and difficult to learn from, as I am not the most self-motivating person. Typography helped me get through this hurdle and equipped me with the skills to self-teach myself.

Observations: I've observed that through each of our work, we take typography as something visual. It creates messages and it can represent various things on its own. Typography isn't just a set of letters or numbers together, but holds history and significance to those who play closer attention. I realized how much we are reliant on Typography in out modern day and age and how much of an impact it can make on a product or service.

Findings: Along with the module, I have done eloquent research to deepen my understanding Typography. From further readings to gathering information to making moodboards on Pinterest, Typography has so much background I can continue learning from. I have also learnt things such as how to make my own font, kern them according, making editorial spreads etc. Each size, weight, and style can affect how something is viewed by audiences.
