Design #1: Comme De Garcon Advertising

Description: In terms of photography, I like how bold, yet simple the photo is, yet presented in such a way that the intention behind it is abstract. I love the use of mixed medium, and the physical manipulation and distortion of said image printed on brown paper. The staples add another tangible feeling I quite enjoy and makes it visually pleasing and interesting. The colours blend in nice but are still readable and are all harmonious with one another. I enjoy looking at advertising pieces like these, because the message is subtle but the piece has a polished feel to it. |
Design #2: UNKNOWN WORK

Description: Again, once more focusing on photography, I like how the subject is clear but there are many various graphical elements making it interesting and adding layers to its composition. I love the use of collages and bold colours, again imitating that feeling of mixed medium. I also like the use of silhouettes and the balance between negative and positive spaces. The colors add a pop and highlight the silhouette of the subject. The little handwritten colours and lines are something I am drawn to as well. Pictures that replicate polaroid or film pictures always capture my eye. |
Design #3: Collage Art by Maria Tokar

|
Description: More towards the graphic design side, the images used are heavily edited, manipulated, and distorted which gives it a nostalgic and mysterious feeling. I love the bold, messy signature in the middle. Handwritten fonts and elements pique my interest because it creates personality and creates a connection with the viewer. This piece is definitely more abstract and incomprehensible, but the emotion it conveys brings it to life. I love the dull, tangible colour palette and style and the layering of pictures gives it a collage effect. |
Design #4: Extras

|
Description: An extra mention to this poster, which has interesting typography to showcase the photography. The masking used is clever, and reveals important parts of the subject and the photo. It has a mix of formality with the emotion of the subject and is visually interesting yet uses very little space. I love the use of white space with smaller graphic elements. |
After developing 3 inspirations, we had to create a Pinterest board with our favourite works, that can be used for each of our projects. Any of the works posted has to include photography, some graphical elements, and typography.
